This year, after some friendly encouragement from Mrs. Archer, I became a volunteer at Charter Oak's home track meets. At each home meet, I worked at the finish line recording placement and times. Now, this seems like a fairly simple job that should be easy and stress free, right? Yeah...not really. I know, I know, all I had to do was write down placing and times while athletes were competing in a million degree weather. However, when five athletes cross the finish line at seemingly the exact same time and then disperse like seeds in a windstorm, it is not easy to determine and keep track of placing. And no, we are not the olympics and do not have photographic evidence. However, eventually we got the hang of it, and in the mean time, we were able to cheer on our friends and other Charter Oak athletes. All in all, I'm glad I got to be a part of the track experience in some way, since never in a million years would I willingly be on a team where running is the main event.
