Action: 54 hours
This year, I was a member of the Varsity Tennis team. I am so grateful for this unforgettable experience that taught me valuable lessons that should be applied not only on the court, but in life as well. This season tested my endurance and showed me the importance of perseverance and determination. This was my only second year playing tennis, and honestly, I have not yet developed the skills needed to truly compete against my more experienced opponents. At the beginning of the season, I was optimistic and determined to do my best. However, as the losses piled up, I became increasingly discouraged and I began to feel that giving my best effort was useless. My coach, mom, and teammates, however, continued to push me to play my best and to persevere. They reminded that the importance of tennis lay not in the outcome of the game, but in how the game was played. I pushed through the season, and I learned the importance of perseverance during difficult times. Additionally, despite the fact that I play singles, this tennis season taught me the importance of teamwork. Many people believe that the only teamwork needed in tennis is that of doubles partners. However, this is a fallacy, as the tennis team, loses as a team and wins as a team. The synchronization of doubles partners was just as important as the unity of the team. We encouraged one another, motivated one another, and supported one another. Each individual was important to the success of the team. The tennis team gave me more than just teammates, it gave me friends. Together, we survived the demanding practices, the draining heat, and the challenging season. I am truly thankful for this experience that taught me invaluable lessons.
