This year, I had the privilege of serving as the 2014-2015 president of Charter Oak's Sharing Our Humanity Club. Last year, as a member of this club, I had a lot of fun working alongside friends and helping plan the annual dinner. It had been easy, non stressful, and fun - well, that is, it had been for me, because I was not an officer and utterly clueless about the work that had been done in order to organize such an event. Thus, when I was announced president, my stress level was only around 30%. Well, in no time, as you may guess, it rose to 110%. I severely underestimated the detail that goes into organizing and hosting a dinner for the public. In between choosing a charity and sending the money after the event, there was gathering club members, making/designing t-shirts, publicizing the event, selling tickets, making food preparations, organizing volunteers, planning decorations, preparing soccer-related activities, filling out endless paperwork, and then, actually carrying out the dinner plans.
However, March 20th, the day of the dinner, eventually came, and somehow, everything went perfectly. There is no better feeling than witnessing the success of a year's worth of plans. Everyone had fun, and we raised over a thousand dollars to send to our charity - FundaField - which donates sports equipment as a therapeutic method of healing to countries that have undergone a traumatic experience. This was one of my favorite high school experiences, as I learned leadership, organization, and responsibility while getting to work with incredible people and great friends. So although I probably gained a few grey hairs during the process, this experience was more than worth it, and I for one, am extremely proud.
