This past year, I was gifted with the opportunity to be a part of the incredible Sharing Our Humanity club. Every year, this club chooses a a global issue to help support through fundraising activities. This year, we decided to focus our support on the water project. Water is the foundation for life, but unfortunately, nearly one billion people do not have access to clean water. Around the world, people die because of dirty, polluted water, yet here in America, we waste this precious resource necessary for life. The entire club came together, and we immediately began planning and preparing for the annual dinner we would use to bring attention to and fundraise for our cause. The preparation process took careful planning, and included finding a guest speaker, deciding what and how food would be served, and publicizing and selling tickets to the event. Thanks to our organized leaders, when the night of the dinner finally arrived in the spring, everything went perfectly. My specific involvement in the dinner included helping sell tickets and helping bring and serve food the night of the dinner. However, overall, this dinner was a group effort, and it was a joy to see a group of students unite and work together to successfully accomplish a goal. I am proud to have played even a little part in this amazing event. Working on this project was an eye opening experience for me, as although I knew that some people did not have access to clean water, I never truly grasped how many people suffer because of unclean water and I took it for granted. This project reminded me of how incredibly blessed I am to have access to clean drinking water. I am so thankful for being given the privilege to work alongside kind, incredible people for such an important and noble cause.
