Service: 30 hours
When elected Charter Oak Key Club's secretary for the 2014-2015 term, I was naive and bright-eyed thinking the job would be easy. In retrospect, I realize that I probably should have looked into what the job would entail before running for a Key Club board position. This year, I have worked, along with the other board members of Key Club, for many hours organizing, planning, documenting, and much more. As secretary, I was in charge of keeping track of member hours, writing down meeting agendas, producing monthly report forms for the Division Lieutenant Governor, signing people into events, co-running the Secretarial/Fundraising committee, and collaborating with my fellow board members to ensure the club was run smoothly. As one would expect, we ran into many unforeseen obstacles and there were definitely days of frustration. However, I would not trade this experience for anything. Not only did I get to learn collaboration, organization, responsibility, leadership, dedication, and perseverance, but I also got to spend the year running a club with some of my best friends. I am proud to have been a part of Key Club and to have been able to give back just a little to the community.
