On April 19, I participated in a Kiwanis one day service project dedicated to helping clean up Schabarum Park in Rowland Heights. I worked alongside my fellow Key Club members to help pick up trash, pull out weeds, and repaint a faded tunnel. Although I was initially reluctant to participate in this event due to the combination of extreme heat and physical labor, I am glad I did, as I really enjoyed watching a group of people come together to do something nice for the community. It was surprising and exciting to see how much we could accomplish when we worked together. Maintaining a park takes a lot of work, but it is crucial that we put in that work because the clean, safe, and beautiful environment it creates provides so much for the community. When I was younger, the park offered me a place to play softball, soccer, and tennis, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help maintain something that gave me so much. This project reminded me of how important it is to give back to the community and to ensure that the next generation has a clean and great place to play too.
