Service: 5 hours.
Sharing Our Humanity is a club on campus aimed at providing the privileges that we have in a first world country to countries that do not have opportunities that we have. The SoH Dinner is an annual event that our club hosts. We invite as many people to come as possible, from teachers to students, and charge $5 per ticket that goes to a particular charity focus. This year, we focused our aims inwards, but not in a limiting way, towards those in the United States who doesn't have the privilege of water. Water politics was our emphasis this year and it was a really enlightening dinner. The entire club gave up many lunches to put together decorations and food items. As for myself, I, along with Thea, spent our lunches outside in the Quad. selling tickets to the dinner. It took a lot of yelling and dragging people in toward our table, but we were successful in the end thanks to the support of our friends and fellow students. At the dinner, we helped pass out food, prepare, and ate! Once again, I continued the ticket-selling. Our president and vice-president both spoke as well as a guest speaker who talked about the importance of water politics in our nation. An inspiring video was presented to everyone and the speaker was open to a forum of discussion, which many interested teachers at our school participated in. The ambiance of the multi-purpose room was great, partially in thanks to the decoration, but once again we were connected by the prospect of our community connections.
