The minute I was announced Vice President of Sharing Our Humanity at the end of the 2013-2014 school year, I immediately knew that the annual dinner for 2015 was going to be extremely stressful. Mrs. Archer suggested that we do some kind of barbecue in the stadium after our new office positions were announced. It seemed like an amazing and easy idea at first, but if only we knew!
Getting all of the facilities requests in order, purchasing all of the supplies/decorations, and building up the simply manpower to manage a stadium barbecue was a huge pain in the rear, but we were able to pull through! This year, Sharing Our Humanity decided to focus its fundraising and awareness-building toward FUNDaFIELD, an organization aimed at helping to recover areas of trauma by purchasing sports equipment, fields, and balls for affected communities. This year, we centered our entire theme around soccer and raised over $1000 to be sent to Ghana.
It was a truly amazing experience as it helped to unite all members--seniors and juniors--for a cause that was very distant from us, yet extremely significant nonetheless. Service leadership was built that night, not only within us, the leaders of the club, but also within important juniors that would follow in our footsteps, and I couldn't be more proud.
